First round of public consultations complete
May 22, 2006
The Faro Mine closure planning team recently completed the first round of public consultations to people in the communities of Pelly Crossing, Ross River, Faro and Whitehorse.
The first round of consultations was designed to introduce people to the suite of "example alternatives" - a range of methods that have been developed by the technical team to address the outstanding environmental issues at the Faro Mine complex.
Consultations focused on how each of the "example alternatives" addresses issues at the three main components of the site: the tailings area, the Faro Mine area and the Vangorda/Grum area. It also gave an opportunity for individuals to ask questions of the technical team, and bring up any particular areas of concern.
A second round of consultations, focusing on the cost, performance and residual risk of example alternatives is planned for Winter 2006/07.
