Independent Peer Review Panel Initiated
October 6, 2006
An independent peer review panel (IPRP) has recently been assembled and asked to assess the technical adequacy of the current example alternatives for the Faro Mine complex.
Consisting of nine leading experts in a range of technical fields, the independent review panel will begin their assessment with a site visit in October, followed up by an analysis of the supporting technical studies underpinning the example closure alternatives. They have been asked to consider and specifically respond to the following two questions:
1. Have the technical studies considered the full range of viable closure alternatives?
2. Have the technical studies characterized the alternatives in sufficient detail to allow selection of a preferred alternative?
In addition, the IPRP has been asked to recommend any additional studies that they feel are necessary to fully detail the range of example alternatives.
The results of the IPRP findings will be considered by the closure team before moving forward in the closure planning process.
